Juno Plot
In Elk River, Minnesota, 16-year-old high-schooler Juno MacGuff realizes she is pregnant by her friend and longtime admirer Paulie Bleeker. She originally considered an abortion. Going to a local clinic run by a women’s group, she meets a schoolmate outside holding a one-person anti-abortion vigil. Juno determines to give the baby up for adoption instead.
With the help of her friend Leah, Juno explores the ads in the Pennysaver and discovers a childless wedding couple she judges will deliver a suitable home. She tells her father Mac and stepmother Bren, who offer their help. In their costly Saint Cloud home, with Mac, Juno meets the couple, Mark and Vanessa Loring, and conforms to a closed adoption. As the pregnancy progresses, Juno works with the emotions she feels for the baby’s father, Paulie.
Juno was indifferent to Paulie, but when he understood Paulie had asked another girl to the coming prom party, he faced him in a jealous anger. Paulie reminded Juno that it was at his request they remained far and told him that he broke his heart. Not long before the baby was due, Juno returned to Mark when their interaction became emotional. Mark then told him that he would leave Vanessa to find out his life. Juno was afraid of this revelation, with Mark asking Juno, “
What do you think about me?” revealed he began to foster feelings for him. Vanessa arrived home, and Mark suggested to Vanessa that she did not feel ready to be a father. Juno left and cried on the side of the road. Produce to Lorings’s house, Juno went notes and disappeared when Lorings answered the door. Vanessa came to the hospital, where she happily claimed a newborn boy as a single adoptive mother. Vanessa has prepared Juno’s notes on the wall in the new baby’s room, which reads: “Vanessa: If you are still in, I’m still in. —Juno.” The film ends in the summer with Juno and Paulie playing guitar and singing together, in a happy relationship.
