NASA has recently announced that it would fall within the fairness of the mission that is described as a global effort to assess the expansion and amendment of the programs, purchasing, subsidies and policies of the Agency. The objective is to examine the potential barriers and challenges for historically underrepresented and underserved communities.
Nasa Bill Nelson Administrator says the agency is a 21st century agency with 22nd century goals. Nelson says that the space agency must take a comprehensive approach to address the challenges of equity observed today. The Administrator also says that the new mission action initiative is “bold and needed” to ensure that programs are accessible to all Americans and in particular those living in historically undisserved communities across the country.
Last week, NASA issued a request for information entitled “Advance of equity and support to underserved communities served NASA programs, contracts and subsidies”. The Agency wants public comments in revising its programs, practices and policies. It is looking for contributions on potential barriers that underestimated communities and individuals face supply, contract and agency grant opportunities.
NASA wishes to know whether new policies, regulations and guidelines are needed to advance fairness and opportunities within the Agency. The RFI also wants to have contributed to the way its resources and tools can improve equity, including the progression of environmental justice. NASA defines undeveloped and under-represented communities as black, Latino and Aboriginal people.
It also includes Americans of Asian origin and the Pacific Islanders and other people of color, members of religious minorities, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and bizarre people as malleris and under-represented. NASA also considers that under-served and under-represented communities as including people with disabilities, those living in rural areas and people with poverty or inequality. NASA plans to hold a virtual public meeting on June 29 when leaders discuss the goals of the RFI and agencies.
