Amazon is the latest to ride in a secure message bandwagon. The motherboard reports that Amazon has acquired Wick, best known as a secure Democratic chat platform used after Hack DNC 2016. The internet giant sees it as a complement to the Amazon web service that gives the company and government easy solutions for long-range work conversations, including video and sound.
AWS offers Wickr services “soon,” and Wickr customers who should not expect change.
This step is a big problem for AWS. Wick has calculated the military, customs and border protection, and other significant organizations as customers. This can help Amazon redeem loss of Jedi’s contract and vice versa giving an advantage when negotiating government agreements. If an agent has an Amazon license thanks to Wickr, it might be more willing to buy other services.
However, it also raises the possibility of everyday use. Safe messages have developed in the world of consumers between platforms such as WhatsApp, iMessage, Signal and Telegram. Wickr purchases far from the guarantee that Amazon will offer direct competitors to the chat service (Amazon has not said anything on this effect), but the company can enter the room with relatively small work.
